Peter was well-qualified to write a letter to those whose faith was being tried in so many ways.

Peter witnessed the suffering of Christ firsthand - inflicted by those who crucified Him and by Peter's own denial of Him in the face of danger. Perhaps it was these experiences that influenced his first epistle, which focuses on righteous conduct when undergoing persecution.

Both 1 and 2 Peter demonstrate the disciple's remarkable growth. Where turmoil once compelled Peter to cut off a soldier's ear and deny the Savior he loved and followed, we now see him clinging boldly to faith in Jesus - even when knowing that it was going to cost him his life. In his final epistle - 2 Peter - he encourages believers to hold onto the promises of God and live them out, no matter the circumstances.
