Imagine you’re picking tomatoes from your garden. You find the biggest, reddest, most perfect tomato ever! What would you do with it? Would you give it away or save it for yourself? In Bible times farmers would pick the very FIRST and BEST fruits and vegetables from their gardens and bring them to God as an offering. They didn’t wait until the end of the harvest and give God whatever was left over. They gave Him the first and the best! Why? Because they knew that God was the one who made everything grow in the first place!

Today we show God He’s first in our lives by giving Him our time, our talents, and even our money! When we get allowance or birthday money, we can give some of it to God first—before we spend it on candy or toys. When we have time, we can choose to read our Bible or help someone instead of just playing video games all day.

Putting God first doesn’t mean life is boring! Actually, when we put God first, He makes our whole life better! The Bible says, “In all things He may have the preeminence” (Colossians 1:18). That’s a fancy way of saying God should be number one in everything we do!

Think About It: What’s one way you can put God FIRST this week? Maybe you can read your Bible before you play on your tablet. Maybe you can help your parents with chores before they even ask. Or maybe you can give some of your allowance to church. When you put God first, you’re telling Him, “You’re the most important thing in my life!”
