Bible Dads: Paul, Timothy’s Spiritual Dad
You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 2:1
When we first meet Timothy in the Bible, he's a teenager whose mom was Jewish and believed in Jesus, "but his father was Greek."It sounds like Timothy's dad probably wasn't a believer in Jesus. The people who taught Timothy about God were actually his mom and grandma (2 Timothy 1:5; 3:14-15)!
Then along came Paul, a super important missionary who traveled around telling people about Jesus. Paul met Timothy and saw something special in him. Even though Paul wasn't Timothy's real dad, he took him under his wing like a spiritual father.
Can you imagine the amazing adventures they had together? They walked hundreds of miles on dusty Roman roads, sailed across seas in wooden ships, camped under starry skies, and told all kinds of people about Jesus! Paul taught Timothy everything he knew about following God.
Soon Paul trusted Timothy enough to send him on missions by himself. Eventually, Timothy became the pastor of the church in Ephesus—a really important job! Paul wrote two special letters to Timothy that are in our Bible: 1 and 2 Timothy. The second letter was probably the last one Paul ever wrote.
Even if you're not a grown-up, you can be like Paul and help someone younger learn about Jesus! There are probably kids at your church or in your neighborhood who look up to you. By being kind, praying for them, and telling them about God, you can make a huge difference in their lives!
Take Action: Is there a younger child at your church, in your neighborhood, or in your family that you could help? Maybe you could read them a Bible story, invite them to play with you when they seem lonely, or just be extra kind to them. Ask a grown-up to help you think of one specific way to be a good influence on someone younger this week. Remember, you're never too young to help others know Jesus better!

PARTNER WITH us

As a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, the importance of family has always been a core value in my life. I have been a pastor for decades, watching families grow and generation after generation come up in faith. That is why Bible Strong Kids is so important to me. What better legacy to leave for our children and grandchildren than to raise them up in faith, strengthening them for the journey ahead all the way into adulthood?
I hope you will join us in this endeavor to create the next generation of Bible Strong Kids—children who know their worth in God’s eyes and are equipped to shine His light in an increasingly dark world.
