It is simply not healthy to spend too many hours each day absorbing the headlines. I wouldn’t advise you to be a news junkie. The Bible says our thoughts should linger on what is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, and of good report (Philippians 4:8). No, we can’t ignore the news or live in ignorance about the world around us, but we must never let the headlines mess up our heads.

For the followers of Jesus, there’s hope in the headlines because the headlines are accelerating our times to their God-ordained consummation. Does the world shape our worldview or does the Word shape our view of the world?

When we rise in the morning and retire at night, do we let the headlines set our emotional and spiritual “blood pressure”? Or do we rise and retire by meditating on the truths of God’s Word, reminding ourselves that He is sovereign and loving and oversees the world based on His plans and purposes? Does the world shape our worldview, or does the Word shape our view of the world?
