Multitasking may be all the rage in our modern world, but certain kinds of multitasking are now against the law in some states—like texting, even talking, on a cell phone while driving. Centuries ago, the Romans observed a fallacy in multitasking when they wrote, “To do two things at once is to do neither.”

I’ve tried to eliminate multitasking altogether from one area of my life—my relationships with people. If I’m speaking with another person, face to face or by phone, I want them to know they have my full attention—that I am completely focused on what is important to them.
