Years ago, a friend gave me a leather-bound guide for reading through Psalms and Proverbs. My personal copy is very worn now, and the book is out of print. But I want you to be blessed by it as I have been. So we have produced this edition for you!

We’ve taken the book of Psalms and Proverbs, sectioned them into a month of reading, and bound them in a leather-like cover to create The Focused Life–Psalms and Proverbs Reading Plan.

Why Psalms and Proverbs?

Psalms is a hymnal of the Hebrews. It contains poetry, songs, truth, and theology that supersede all of it’s worldly counterparts. It plucks the strings of every emotion and speaks to us in every condition.

Proverbs on the other hand, contains portable rules for living. Here you’ll find advice about working hard, eating and drinking wisely, keeping our temper, guarding our tongue, avoiding unhealthy friendships, and immorality, handling money well, and making good decisions in matters great and small.

Weave both books together in your daily devotions and you’ll always have a song to sing, and map to follow, and a Savior to serve.

Psalms

is the hymnal of the Hebrews. It contains poetry that exceeds that of Milton or Shakespeare, songs beyond any written by Wesley or Watts, truth superseding the world’s greatest philosophers, and theology filtered through the broadest range of human experience. It plucks the strings of our every emotion and speaks to us in ever condition.

Proverbs

contains God’s portable rules for living. God’s wisdom has little to do with grades on a report card, but it has everything to do with getting high marks in life. Thumb through the chapters of Proverbs and you’ll find them packed with advice about working hard, eating, and drinking wisely, keeping our temper, guarding our tongue, avoiding unhealthy friendships and immorality, handling money well, and making good decisions in matters great and small.

Your CD album includes 2 messages not available on DVD:

The Priority of a Determined Mind, and The Priority of a Discerning Mind

What is the human mind? Is it the brain or something different? While the Bible doesn’t define the mind, it does contain the most important words ever spoken about the mind: “You shall love the Lord your God with...all your mind” (the words of Jesus in Matthew 22:37). While Jesus didn’t define the mind, we know exactly what He means. We are to use our unique human ability to think, reason, and choose in ways that honor God.

The gifts of thought and choice are a part of our human resources, just like time, talent, treasure, and our physical body. And we are to be good stewards of those gifts.

In this series, Dr. Jeremiah studies the mind and together we will discover how our mind determines who we become; and learn the critical need for renewing the mind in order to be spiritually transformed.
